The Class 508 EMUs were introduced as 4-car sets in 1979 on the South-Western Division from Waterloo to replace ageing 4-SUB units on local duties.
In 1982 they were reduced to 3-cars and reallocated to Merseyside, along with the identical Class 507 units. The 508s were refurbished in 2003 with a new livery and revised headlight clusters and most are still running today.
A small number of units were sent back south to work with Silverlink and SouthEastern.
2 Class 508 driving cars have been rebuilt as barrier coaches for Arlington Fleet Services at Eastleigh and are also available as a kit.
The 507 / 508 kit is now available to order from N-Train, featuring 3D Printed bodyshells, underframes, and floorpans. Electra vinyls are included for bodysides and driving ends.
The kit also comes complete with accurate Taylor Precision Models bogies.
The kit is unpowered but can be moturised with the Tomytec TM-18 chassis.
